  • Petition to Stop the Eritrean Government-Organized Festival of Terror in Sweden!

    Dear Government of Sweden,

We hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. We are writing to bring your attention to a grave concern that requires immediate action from the Swedish government. It has come to my attention that the Eritrean government is organizing a festival within Swedish borders, scheduled for August 03-06 at Eggeby gård 1, 163 62 Spånga Stockholm. We are deeply troubled by this development.

We implore you, as a representative of the Swedish government, to consider the following points in support of our petition to halt this festival:

    • Human Rights Violations: The Eritrean government has a long and well-documented history of human rights violations, which include forced labor, arbitrary detentions, torture, extrajudicial killings, and repression of freedom of speech, press, and assembly. Numerous reports from reputable sources, including the United Nations, European Union, and African Union, attest to these injustices.
    • International Condemnation: The international community has repeatedly condemned the Eritrean government for its egregious human rights abuses. Resolutions and reports from the United Nations Human Rights Council, the European Parliament, and the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights have all highlighted the need for accountability and justice in Eritrea.
    • Sweden's Commitment to Human Rights: As a country that champions human rights and democracy, Sweden has a moral obligation to stand against governments that perpetrate grave injustices against their citizens. By allowing the Eritrean government to organize a festival on Swedish soil, we inadvertently provide them with a platform to normalize their actions and divert attention from their human rights abuses.
    • Victims' Rights: Holding a festival organized by the Eritrean government without proper scrutiny and acknowledgment of their past and ongoing human rights violations disregards the rights and dignity of the victims. It undermines the struggles of Eritrean refugees who have fled their country for safety and justice.

Considering the aforementioned points, We respectfully request that the Swedish government take the following actions:

    1. Deny permission for the Eritrean government to organize the festival within Swedish borders. b. Engage in diplomatic efforts to raise concerns about the human rights situation in Eritrea and advocate for meaningful reforms. c. Strengthen support for human rights organizations and initiatives that address the injustices the Eritrean government perpetrates. d. Collaborate with international bodies such as the United Nations, European Union, and African Union to ensure that the Eritrean government is held accountable for its human rights violations.

We believe that by taking these measures, Sweden can send a strong message to the Eritrean government and demonstrate its commitment to human rights, justice, and the well-being of individuals affected by human rights abuses.

Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. We kindly request a prompt response regarding the Swedish government's actions to address our concerns. We hope your office will act in the best interest of human rights and justice.

    Yours sincerely,

    Eritreans Network of Justice!
